James has been doing my tattoos for years! His line work is amazing and super amazing to work with. Single needle, detailed work is his specialty. I would highly recommend Shelter Tattoo to anyone who wants a high quality tattoo. Be sure to get an appointment, although he takes walk-ins he is typically booked for the day.

Excellent first ink experience! For years, I had wanted a tattoo and I'm so glad I finally did it. James is highly skilled in single-needle, fine line work and operates in his own (super clean) space. With his gaining popularity on social media, I was surprised how responsive he was with email and was able to schedule me and my friend together within a few weeks. I will definitely be getting more work done from him in the future!

I’m glad I decided to go with James for my first tattoo. He’s very talented and he’ll go out of his way to make sure you have a good experience. He could tell I was in some pain, so he started chatting me up to keep me distracted. His prices are very fair and are no more than some of the other talented artists in Houston. His work has even been featured in the press before. For anyone thinking about getting ink, I would highly recommend setting up a consultation with James since he works by appointments only. I plan on getting more work done from him in a few weeks.

I cannot recommend Shelter Tattoo enough! This was my first tattoo, I had wanted it for years,
and James made all of my tattoo dreams come true. I had many questions and ended up having to reschedule, but he was so kind and understanding the whole time. On top of that his shop was incredibly clean and relaxing, he was prepared when I came in, and he was so professional the entire time. During my session he told me there was little to no room for error when it came to fine line work but I had zero hesitations or doubts when it came to him doing my tattoo. I’m not sure if anymore tattoos are in my future, but if there are, I will certainly be coming back here.

This artist is booked out for weeks. But when he received my request to do a piece with a necessary immediate time frame, he replied almost immediately and gave me several quality artists to try. I am so impressed by him! (I am hoping to enlist him for a larger piece when he has time)

Shelter tattoo is most definitely highly recommended. It is clean, a great atmosphere, and James is an excellent artist that pays incredible attention to detail.
