"Modern Classic is a private custom tattoo shop conveniently located in Boulder’s University Hill District just steps away from the CU-Boulder campus. We have been professionally tattooing in Boulder for over 20 years and On The Hill for almost 15 of those years. I spent 12+ years as the resident artist at Tribal Rites’ Boulder location as an artist, manager, problem-solver and general shop cheerleader. After many years of changes, I needed a change myself & when I found this hidden gem that was literally just a couple hundred feet from my long-time station at Tribal Rites, I decided to try out just managing just myself and my own space again. The work here is mainly by appointment but we do walk-ins when available. That’s the scoop."

I called as a walk in hours before because another place was flaky on me, and I am absolutely so happy that I did! He was able to make time to fit me in!! He did a fantastic job and was so accommodating to me. It worked out perfect that I ended up coming here because now I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!!! I will definitely be coming back for my future tattoos & brining others along with me! This place is so cute and awesome I loved it :) Best experience ever!!

AMAZING!!! Carlos is the owner and artist of the shop. Very personal and comfortable experience. His attention to detail is unmatched. I had a specific font I wanted for the script on my hip - he downloaded it, and not only did he match it perfectly (outline, then bolding each letter specifically where it needed) he modified some letters I wanted spaced out more with his own artistic talent. He worked with the shape of my body to pick a perfect placement. This was a small tattoo but he didn't make me feel unimportant and he did not rush me at all when we were stencilling and trying out different spots. While tattooing, I watched a show on Netflix to calm my nerves (tattoos hurt, mmmkay?) and he played music matching the lyrics he was writing on my hip. The tattoo is flawless and healed well, while following his very thourough instructions. I've gotten so many compliments. His energy is positive - he's patient and kind. I have two other tattoos, and the experience here was above and beyond those, exceeding my expectations. The other reviews don't lie. Hit him up and let him work his magic on you!
