I had high hopes for a coverup after seeing his beautiful work on IG but was left disappointed. I had an in-person consultation in February. I provided numerous photos and a detailed explanation of my vision for the coverup to AJ. I explain to him that I wanted to cover up to be very tasteful as it was covering up my sons name and I still wanted to honor him. I placed my deposit a month prior to my appointment and per his request, sent him the photos via Facebook messenger. I was told that I’d receive a drawing before the day of my appointment. When I did not receive a drawing to review ahead of time, I was understanding because his iPad was stolen. I arrived to my appointment as scheduled to find him drawing up my tattoo but it was nothing like what we consulted about in-person or through messenger. When I called that to his attention, he asked to see the photos I showed him previously. In hindsight, I wish I would’ve left at this point and rescheduled, but against my better judgement and trusting him when he said he understood what I wanted after seeing the pictures again, I moved forward and ended up with a tattoo that was nothing like what I envisioned. It was awkwardly shaped, had a harsh and dark watercolor background, and the coverup was just a dark blob of color. I spoke up about how I felt and gave him a chance to correct the work but did request to have drawings sent to me in advance for review. My 2nd appointment came and went without receiving any drawings or communication. Respecting him as a small business owner, I sent some feedback to AJ privately about my experience and never received a reply. I have since paid another artist several hundred dollars to try and correct his work. I’m left with a huge tattoo that I absolutely hate. He set the bar high for customer service and artistry but fell very short when it came to me.
