"Black Coffin Tattoo is a custom Tattoo and piercing shop in St. Paul on University Avenue and HWY 280. Our tattoo studio is located about a mile and a half West of the U of M TCF Bank Stadium. We are conveniently accessible via the Green Line light rail, right between the Westgate Station and Raymond Ave. Station, making us a convenient location from all major Twin Cities college campuses. REVIEW ONLY FOR KELLY. I have been trying to get a tattoo done with Kelly for almost 4 months now. The process started when I saw his stuff on TikTok, and I went to his Instagram and saw that to get something set up with him, I needed to DM him on Instagram. This was back in January, and he didn’t open my message until 2 weeks ago. Before he opened my message I was really confused why it was taking so long so I contacted black coffin, and they said to email Kelly (which I also tried) or to DM him on Instagram so not a lot of help there. So back to two weeks ago, Kelly asked what I wanted, I told him what I was thinking about, and now I’m left on read again. I understand if you’re busy and don’t have time to set up new appointments, but make that clear somewhere!! Put in your Instagram “NOT ACCEPTING NEW APPOINTMENTS” instead of leading people on like this. Or a quick message that says “hey I’m busy right now and will be for a while. Could you message me back in June?” This has been a very frustrating, unprofessional, and disappointing experience. The only reason I’m not giving a one star review is because I haven’t met anyone else at the store and I’m sure the rest of the people here are amazing as you can see in the rest of the reviews. I really hope that this gets better.

Cody Rose at Black Coffin is an excellent artist! I got my first tattoo here and she made me feel comfortable and took the time to walk me through the process. This place has a laid-back atmosphere and everyone I talked to was nice. They are very sanitary and take everyone's health seriously, especially during the pandemic, even checking in after the tattoo to make sure I was doing okay. I feel the price she charges is very reasonable for the quality of work you are getting. I will be getting more work here!

Went in on a walk-in basis and was helped by Kelly! I got a small tattoo on my finger and he did really well! He was super patient and very helpful. One of the friendliest people who’ve ever tattooed me! He was very open to what I wanted and was able to make it exactly how I wanted it. The entire shop was amazing- the inside is by far one of the coolest I’ve seen. From what I saw with other artists, all of their customers were happy with them. I definitely suggest going here whether it’s a walk-in or appointment. Definitely true to their amazing reputation!

Tattoos are great. However, every piercing I or my friends have gotten here has ripped or healed incorrectly. I have lots of piercings, and only here have I seen any take upwards of a year to heal, or be so incredibly crooked. My best friend got a septum that was through her cartilage, which is very unprofessional and hard to do, and my navel piercing is basically completely diagonal.

The staff are super friendly and welcoming, the owner is especially nice and super cool.
I had cody rose, and usually I don't care to see apprentices anymore (from older mess ups), but she is really good at what she does. She takes her time and is really passionate about what she does. Super easy, personable, and fun to talk to! If you like anything nerdy and want nerdy tattoos, go to her!! She will put her love into it. You won't be disappointed.

He and his team couldn't be more committed to their craft, the artists are highly skilled, very knowledgeable and willing to work with your idea and create something from a thought you have. I saw Erik Luna for a cover up of an old tattoo. He was very talented, you can't even see what I had originally covered up anymore and my new ink looks amazing. Super friendly staff, the ambiance is great and very clean. I hope to be back one day!

Great place to have any tattoos or piercings done, they are all about safety and cleanliness when it comes to protecting you and themselves from getting sick. Their prices are great also. The work they do however is truly a gift that they have and they are very knowledgeable and articulate when it comes to doing great work.

I went to get my septum piercing done on the 4th and everything was great! The shop was clean and the front of house was friendly and helpful in picking out jewelry. They use titanium and gold jewelry, which they do not include in the pricing of piercing. Pricing is reasonable and they sell saline spray or you can buy it elsewhere. Tom, the piercer, was super professional and kind. Told a friend who was interested in getting her navel pierced about this shop because it was such a great experience!
